The Raleigh mayoral election of 2011 was held on October 11, 2011 to elect a Mayor of Raleigh, North Carolina for a two-year term. Incumbent Mayor Charles Meeker announced in April 2011 that he would not run for a sixth term.〔(News & Observer: Meeker won't seek re-election bid )〕 The election was officially a non-partisan contest, but outgoing Mayor Meeker was well known as a Democrat. Meeker endorsed candidate Nancy McFarlane, who is politically unaffiliated, to succeed him.〔(News & Observer: Meeker endorses McFarlane )〕 She won the election with 61 percent of the vote, making a runoff unnecessary.〔(News & Observer: Raleigh voters choose McFarlane as next mayor )〕 ==Candidates== ;Filed〔(WRAL: Three to vie for Raleigh mayor )〕 *Nancy McFarlane, member of City Council and pharmacist〔(Independent Weekly: Meeker era to end: Mayor won't run for a 6th term )〕〔(News & Observer: McFarlane announces run for mayor )〕 *Billie Redmond, real estate executive〔(News & Observer: Redmond to announce plans for Raleigh mayoral race )〕 *Randall Williams, obstetrician/gynecologist〔http://www.newsobserver.com/2011/07/19/1353608/raleigh-physician-is-running-for.html〕 ;Declined *J.
